Mike Schoon, from Dolphin Hotel, Bas Bove and Ruben Lendering from LB Construction signed the building contract Friday May 30th. Both the current hotel and the second phase were designed by M.I.C., led by Paul Spiertz, who is also supervising the construction. The project is co-financed by the APC and Vida Nova.
The building site will be set up from June 7th. In collaboration with the owners of the neighboring site, a temporary workshop is being set up at the rear of the existing hotel. With this, the walking route that runs behind the hotel and connects Cornelisbaai with Jan Thiel will be guaranteed with a short temporary redirection.
Dolphin Suites, well known as the only fully wheelchair accessible hotel in the Caribbean, has created a niche market for Curaçao in the last 10 years. Since its opening in 2008, the hotel has managed to appeal to a wide audience. Its success is driven by the combination of guests using the special facilities and vacationers without the need for care or wheelchair accessibility. The special hotel concept mainly attracts guests from Germany and the Netherlands, approximately ¼ of whom participate in the Dolphin Supported Therapy Program in the adjacent Curaçao Dolphin Therapy Center.
With a total of 60 suites and rooms, the goal remains to guarantee the existing personal service for all guests. In addition to the care concept, the hotel will also focus on “wellness travel”, according to General Manager Alette Borger.
The hotel project is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
